Hilltop Cottage, Week, Devon
Interior Renovation, 2007/2008
Working with a number of other sub-contractors, we were asked to help revive a 14th Century worker's cottage in Week, near Totnes, Devon. We undertook a variety of jobs including sensitive demolition, stone and cob repair work, lime and earth plastering and pouring an adobe floor.

We were contracted to build the cob walls and part of the wall and roof frame in conjunction with other sub-contractors of this family home & 'Peerie House'. Built with rubble trench foundations, plastic free, low tech and using as locally sourced materials as possible. This is still a work in progress.

The wettest Summer on record for 100 years according to the MET office and with Carmarthen being one of the wettest places we have ever built, we had the ominous task of building a 3 bedroom cob and hempcrete house for clients in these rather 'trying' conditions!

A sculpted cob oven with integral timber shelving. The oven sits on a reclaimed railway sleepers foundation.
Mythic Sculpture Garden, Dartmoor
Cruck Frame Seating Area & Shelter, 2009
An oak cruck frame shelter commissioned by the Mythic Sculpture Garden to shelter visitors to the sculpture exhibition and arboretum on the edge of the moors in Dartmoor. The structure is built entirely using local timber, Oak, Redwood and Douglas Fir and incorporates a stained glass and redwood panel celebrating the constantly changing light in the garden.

Owl Cob Oven, 2002
Our first commission on returning from the States, we were asked to build an owl cob oven & seating area with the backdrop of a beautiful oak tree, said to be over a thousand years old.

Cob House & Garden Sanctuary
An ongoing project for 3 years, the initial phase of this house and garden sanctuary space was undertaken during a series of cob workshops delivered by various U.S practitioners. The completion culminated in the combined efforts of ourselves alongside Rob Pollacek, Simon Holmes and Madeleine Curtis so it could be moved into before the fast approaching winter.The cob house features an earthen floor, natural plasters and paints and a cob bench heated by a rocket stove.
Cob Compost Shrine
We decided to build a shrine to ‘composting’, unrecognisable from the usual vision of a dark smelly closet that most people would want to avoid! We wanted to create the atmosphere of a temple, a celebration of the closure of a circle, from food to waste back to valuable resource!

Renovation
Structures can be finished with a finer version of the same materials as cob. Their effect can have dazzling and uplifting effects on a home with rich earth and soft lime plasters, sparkling mica washes, sunny casein paints and sculptural bas-relief work. They can bring light and magic into your home, be it a cob or conventionally built house.
